Course Objectives: The aim of the course is to analyze sentence transformation structures frequently used in German. Accordingly, firstly, the uninflected verb structures (Partizip I/Partizip II) in German, which carry sentence/judgment value and offer 'economy' in terms of syntax, are discussed, and then the transformation processes between these structures and the relative clauses (Relativsatz) are discussed. Then, infinitive clauses (Infinitivsatz), which are among the structures that are 'economy' in terms of syntax, are discussed. The subject of purpose-declaring clauses (Finalsatz) is discussed in order to introduce adverbial clauses (Adverbialsatz), which are similar to these structures in terms of syntax but differ in meaning/function.
Course Contents: In the German Grammar III course, the intermediate to upper-intermediate concepts and topics of German grammar are mentioned and emphasized. A review and overview of Grammar topics at the intermediate to upper-intermediate level (B1; B2) are provided.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- The student learns indermadiate to upper-intermediate level grammatical concepts about German Grammar.
  • 2- The student learns to name German linguistic formations through intermediate to upper-intermediate level grammatical concepts in German Grammar.
  • 3- The student learns to analyze German linguistic formations through intermediate to upper-intermediate level grammatical concepts in German Grammar.
  • 4- The student learns to analyze German sentences from a linguistic perspective, using a syntactic approach. In this way, his/her own sentence-making skills in German develop.
  • 5- The student learns to analyze German texts from a linguistic perspective, with a textgrammatical approach. In this way, the ability to produce his/her own texts in German develops.
