Course Objectives: 1. Identifying legal challanges brought by information technologies 2. Searching for an answer to major legal challenges related to the Internet 3. Assessing the interrelation between domain names and intellectual property rights particularly trademark rights
Course Contents: Information technologies is one of the most popular field of science for the last twenty years undoubtedly. Rapid progress regarding to this field has brought many legal challenges. Major challanges, particularly interrelation between internet and intellectual property rights and unfair competition, internet and criminal law, liablity of internet service providers are subjects of the course. Formation of electronic and distance contracts, protection of domain names, intellectual property rigts and unfair protection, blocking internet access under Law No. 5561, VoIP services, liablilty of internet services providers and certain types of cyber crimes are within the scope of the course.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Formation of electronic contracts and distance contracts
  • 2- Protection of internet domain names, Intellectual property rights and unfair competition on the Internet, Protection of personal rights on the Internet
  • 3- Blocking internet access and Law No. 5651, Liability of internet service providers
  • 4- VoIP services
  • 5- Identifying novelties brought by Turkish Commercial Code to companies in the field of Information Technologies
  • 6- Identifying cyber crimes that frequently occur
