Course Objectives: - Understanding fundamentals, major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and empirical findings in major areas of developmental psychology - Evaluating and discussing research articles and findings - Designing and executing research plans and writing research reports
Course Contents: Note: Students from all tracks (i.e. social, cognitive, developmental) will benefit from this course by gaining a developmental perspective, an ability to critically evaluate research findings, and gaining experience in writing. In this course, we will focus on several major areas of sociocognitive functioning (e.g., executive functions, theory of mind, language and communication) and examine related social and environmental factors (e.g., parenting and socioeconomic status). We will particularly focus on infancy and early childhood periods where social and cognitive skills develop rapidly and social and environmental factors play an important role in their development.
