| Course Objectives: |
This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the language of design and the application of fundamental design methods and processes in practice. Students will learn how design influences society, business and people while gaining practical creative and analytical skills This course will explore how design is integrated in specific areas or disciplines. Course will introduce the common methods and cognitive approaches that they can apply to their own design problems. Students will be encouraged to critically engage with design theory and use creative thinking to make decisions that solve design-related issues in their areas of specialisation by applying various methods. |
| Course Contents: |
This course involves the methodological approach stages of the design process such as research, concept development, scenario development. Encouraging students to make design decision with appropriate methods through different phases in different design problems. Beside, course will help students to improve their skills to manage the design process and work within the multidisciplinary teams. Course will help to develop understanding on the relation with the design process theories and design methods in the context of problem solving activities. The course includes reading materials that supports the theoretical background about design thinking. The design process, at every level of industrial organizations, is addressed through in-class discussions and role-playing games. |
| Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO): |
- 1- Use design principles to plan a creative process;
- 2- Identify and evaluate the design brief and task for design to be most effective;
- 3- Generate creative concepts in response to a brief;
- 4- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of design in a specific area of design
- 5- Explore the various methods and creative approaches used to solve design-related problems;
|
| Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods: |
- Lectures, supported by slides - In class discussions and Q&As - Design exercises and student presentations - Film screening - A research paper as a midterm exam via Blackboard. - Open source final exam Students are responsible to work on their projects during the course |
