Course Objectives: The educational objective of this course is the introduction to making documentary films in various design processes, setting it as a tool for the design studio.
Course Contents: This is an elective course that is set to create an environment to design and produce documentary films for various design processes. Beginning with the introduction of the cinematic and “documentary” eye, the course moves on to work with film shooting and editing tools on the site and in-class work.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Initial experience in shooting and producing a documentary film.
  • 2- An introduction to using the documentary film as a tool in various design processes.
Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods: The course is based on lectures, enriched with screenings of documentary films in each lesson and on-site filming practice sessions. These are followed up by studio modules, where participants learn film editing programs and edit their documentaries. Each participant is motivated to produce a short documentary film of about 3-5 min. on their studio design project or another topic of interest. This is a documentary film production oriented elective course. The teaching method is based on presentation of the existing concepts - discussion-development sequence, facilitated by active learning approach of individual production. Taking initiatives and responsibility in the design and development of the documentary film motivates the participant to take part in active learning.
