Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to help the students broaden their awareness of the sounds of spoken language and how the use of language affects the actor in performance. Students will develop a methodical approach to the imaginative processes of vocal play, standard speech, character voice, and dialects.
Course Contents: Students will engage in physical exercises and explorations that will aid in the re-discovery of natural breathing, and in time, a use of their instruments (the organs of voice and speech specifically, and the overall body in general) that is free of physical tension and other unhealthy habits that inhibit an actor’s ability to not only be heard and understood, but to be fully available and engaged – physically, psychologically, and emotionally.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Demonstrate ability to connect emotionally to dramatic text with the voice.
  • 2- Demonstrate articulation and pronunciation appropriate to specific text in performance.
  • 3- Exhibit ability to speak in an expressive, clear, and professional manner in performance.
  • 4- Focus energy, create and sustain the integrity of a performance through voice
