| Course Objectives: |
As a result of taking this course, the students will: - learn the major information processing mechanisms and how they may constitute risk and protective factors in cases of psychopathology - develop an integrative perspective that goes beyond diagnostic limits - learn how neuroscientific and behavioral models conceptualize psychopathology and to recognize their contributions as well as oversimplification |
| Course Contents: |
This course is a general presentation of psychopathology from an information processing perspective. Theoretical approaches explaining the role of cognitive factors in the development and maintenance of psychological problems will be addressed, which will be followed by a thorough discussion of empirical evidence. The course content is designed in a way to provide students a flexible framework by which they integrate the cognitive functions (i.e. memory, attention, cognitive control) into their view of abnormality. They will not only develop a deeper understanding of the psychopathology but also conceptualize individual differences in psychological problems. |
| Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO): |
- 1- Demonstrate knowledge in the cognitive factors in psychopathology
- 2- Demonstrate a critical perspective for conventional approaches in etiology and treatment
- 3- Demonstrate advanced knowledge on the links of emotional functioning with cognition and brain
