| Course Objectives: |
The students are expected to:
• Understand the basics of the emerging television formats and platforms
• Learn new generation TV services
• Develop the tools to predict the future advancements in the emerging platforms
• Take the perspective of the broadcasters and the audience in analyzing the impact of emerging TV services, applications, and technologies. |
| Course Contents: |
This course aims to introduce the students to the changing concepts of television. The students will have an overall understanding of digital TV technologies, the changing behavior of TV audiences, brand-new services delivered to TV via internet and how the impact of broadband will transform media industry as a whole. |
| Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO): |
- 1- Ability to interpret the basics of available TV programs and technologies.
- 2- Ability to understand the new opportunities created for content providers.
- 3- Ability to learn about the fundamentals of internet TV
- 4- Ability to forecast audience and TV interaction methods in the future.

| Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods: |
The course consists of 2 modules. These are: 1. Understanding emerging television formats and platforms 2. Analyzing and responding to audience behaviour and trends The assessment is divided into two modules. The first module is comprised of individual response paper based on the literature and case study research on the development of digital television platforms and examining one case study (0), the second module is assessed on the basis of a group critical analysis project on a chosen emerging TV platform and through evaluating it past trajectory, projecting the future of the platform while considering the changing audience consumption behavior (50%). Class discussion, individual work and participation make up 20% of the course grade. |
