Course Objectives: This course aims to familiarize students with current debates on human memory at the personal and collective level. It is particularly interested in the connection of the "I" (and “we”) to remembering the past and imagining the future. Combination of lecture and discussion will provide students with the opportunity to apply and enhance their research skills when working on their research proposals.
Course Contents: The formation and properties of episodic memories, their links to lifelong memory and identity, the role of forgetting and memory distortion in self-construction, the adaptive and future-oriented functions of episodic memory, the social aspects of autobiographical memory and collective identity will be discussed.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Understanding human memory and future thinking processes
  • 2- Understanding the relationship between identity and past and future thinking processes
  • 3- To be able to adapt the relationship between self and memory to daily life
Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods: Through a combination of lectures and interactive discussions, students will gain a solid understanding of various subjects and foster an open-minded approach to engaging in conversations.
