Course Objectives: 1. Understanding the historical and philosophical background of Turkish Constitutional Law, 2. Understanding the content and system of protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.
Course Contents: Turkish Constitutional Thesis, General Framework of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms of 1982 Turkish Constitution, Freedom of Liberty ad Security, Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Art and Science, Right to Respect to Private Life, Fair Trial Rights, Freedom of Conscience and Religion, Political Rights and Freedoms, Right to Association, Economic and Social Rights
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the legal principles associated with Turkish Constitutional Law
  • 2- Outline the impact of the Turkish constitution on the functioning of the state
  • 3- Apply knowledge of constitutional principles and rules to a range of legal problems in professional life
  • 4- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the fundamental rights and freedoms and monitoring systems of such rights and freedoms under the perspective of comparative constitutional law
  • 5- Reflect critically upon the decisions of the Turkish Constitutional Court on fundamental rights and freedoms and other constitutional matters
  • 6- Find relevant information on constitutional law from a range of printed and electronic sources
