Course Objectives: This course provides a survey of major wars, the development of states` military and financial capacity, the course of imperial expansion and retreat, diplomatic alignments and alliances, arrangements for international trade and investment, as well as efforts to create international institutions. In short, it surveys the history of modern inter-state relations in the twentieth century.
Course Contents: World Wars, Cold War, military technological advancements, trade regimes, diplomatic configurations
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Make sense of the last century of international relations history, within global context
  • 2- Comparatively discuss the discipline's recent history on politics, military and economic fronts
  • 3- Identify how global history spilled into diplomacy, war and peace
Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods: Students are expected to do the readings prior to the lecture; the class will convene in a two hour lecture, and one hour class discussion format.
