Course Objectives: This course aims to enhance the academic communication skills of graduate students with the goal of facilitating ethical research output. To this aim, this course helps master’s and doctoral students develop skills essential for writing academic papers and theses in English.
Course Contents: Readings and assignments cover major components of academic writing, including genre-specific rhetorical organization and styles, data commentaries, paraphrasing, summarization, and citation. These units also cover specific language issues (grammar, vocabulary, academic and professional register) that can be difficult for non-native speakers of English.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Use syntactic clues to interpret the meaning of complex sentences or new vocabulary.
  • 2- Find information by using reference tools, including online resources.
  • 3- Monitor comprehension and adjust reading strategy as measured by unit reading responses, reading tests, and quizzes.
  • 4- Understand writing process and method as measured by written essays, reading responses, and research paper
