Course Objectives: The students are expected to:
• Develop and present a research or a research-based practical project idea throughout the semester based on digital PR
• Implement research skills for academic or market/industry research on digital PR
• Enhance and apply skills gained in project management
• Apply skills gained in text and multimedia production
• Participate in team work
• Prepare a research report or a multi-media project portfolio
• Advance presentation skills • Apply skills and knowledge gained in their studies to real-world cases in collaboration with mentors from industry/academia
Course Contents: This course aims to analyze and measure digital PR practices focusing on digital campaigning. The course will have two parallel streams: the first one will be focusing more on conceptual discussions around social campaigning, the pros and cons of social media and the variety of tools available for social media. These include social media metrics, measurement tools, search engine optimization, data mining for social media, web design, and digital mapping. The second stream, on the other hand, has a practical aspect, which requires students to design a social campaign via use of social media.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Ability to develop an independent collaborative project,
  • 2- Ability to produce a deliverable for graduation portfolios,
  • 3- Ability to manage digital projects,
  • 4- Ability to work in teams,
  • 5- Ability to develop skills for professional presentation of projects in English.
Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods: The course consists of a combination of readings, seminar, case study analysis, strategy building and production workshops. Seminars and discussion: The supervisor/mentor for each project will deliver seminars and discussion sessions and they will also provide students relevant reading material for developing and implementing a research project idea. The student and the supervisor/mentor will discuss ideas and the readings assigned for each week during seminars. The students are expected to come to class having read the texts. Case Study: The student and the mentor will identify a case when developing the research strategy or the strategy for multi-media production, social media or market research strategy.
