Course Objectives:
Course Contents: This Advanced Readings seminar on Security in the EU offers the students a comprehensive perspective on the challenges to European security in the aftermath of the end of the Cold War, specifically in the post 9/11 era and the Arab revolts. The major hybrid threats to European security mostly defined in the European Security Strategy as well as the Global Strategy of the EU (such as issues of human, energy, maritime, cyber, economic security as well as terrorism as a major threat) are conceptualized in this course.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO):
  • 1- Demonstrate a thorough grasp of the challenges to European security which affect the daily lives of not only Europeans but also the global community
  • 2- Understand the issues of European security from a conceptual and practical perspective
  • 3- Critically evaluate the EU’s responses to the contemporary challenges to European security
  • 4- Compare the practices and competences of the EU in dealing with its security
