| Course Objectives: |
The students are expected to:
• Gain understanding of major concepts and theorerical approaches in the communication and media theories
• Identify the implications of the historical development and changes in communşcation theories for social, political and cultural change
• Develop skills to critically reflect on and debate about main issues in contemporary societies regarding media Technologies
• Gain understanding of differences and similarities in media and creative/cultural policies in a global context |

| Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit (LO): |
- 1- To discern the characteristics of mass media and mass communication processes
- 2- To gain ability to think, write and communicate critically in relation to key debates in communication and media history
- 3- To critially engage with the relationship between mass media, mass communication and economic,social and political change
- 4- To develop analytical skills comparing and contrasting the effectiveness of different theoreticaş approaches to mass communication
- 5- To discern and critically reflect on new areas of policy making in relation to mass media and new media

| Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods: |
Each student is individually expected to choose a weekly topic and read the relevant chapters and write a response paper. All students are also expected to prepare a presentation on their chosen topic as their homework where they refer to resources other than the assigned reading material. |
