This page, prepared within the scope of the Bologna Process, has been structured as an information resource through which our students can access up-to-date and official information regarding program learning outcomes, course plans, and course contents.
The adaptation procedures carried out at our University, as well as the academic principles and regulations determined by the Senate, are implemented in accordance with the rules defined in the SPARKS Student Information System. Academic processes specific to each program are conducted in line with the decisions taken by the relevant faculties and departments.

The Economics Ph.D program was founded in 2009 within the Graduate School of Social Sciences, and admitted its first students in 2009.In 2019, our university consolidated all postgraduate activities under the School of Graduate Studies. The Economics Ph.D Program continues its activities under the School of Graduate Studies.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded with Doctor of Philosophy in Economics. The Qualifications Frameworks in the European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA): Level 3, European Qualifications Framework (EQF): Level 8.
For Turkish citizens; Second Cycle (master's’s) Degree diploma with thesis, (2) A minimum score of 55 in the Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies (ALES) or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level Programs recognised by YÖK and (3) a minimum score of 65 in the Examination for Foreign Language Proficiency Test (YDS) or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level Programs recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the Programs based on their composite scores consisting of second cycle degree grade point averages, ALES and foreign language exam. For Ph.D with bachelor degree; First Cycle Degree diploma, (2) Minimum scores of 3.00 out of 4.00 CGPA, (3) 80 from ALES or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level Programs recognised by YÖK and (4) a minimum score of 65 in the Examination for Foreign Language Proficiency Test (YDS) or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level Programs recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the Programs based on their composite scores consisting of first cycle degree grade point averages, ALES and foreign language exam. Students who have completed at least one semester in any postgraduate program may apply to transfer to other postgraduate programs. These students must take courses for at least one semester. The student must meet the current application requirements of the program they intend to transfer to.The examination documents used in the admission to the program in which the students are enrolled can be used during the registration process for the program they intend to transfer to, regardless of the validity date in internal transfers within the university.
This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed the field and elective courses in the curriculum, passed the Ph.D Qualification Exam and completed a Ph.D Dissertation, earning 240 ECTS for the Ph.D or 300 ECTS for Ph.D with bachelor degree, and have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. Understands economic theories, economic concepts and widely used economic models, and conducts advanced-level economic analysis. Comprehends various methodological approaches, uses mathematical and statistical tools, and gains ability to use databases.Evaluates social issues from an economist point of view using knowledge of economics. Specializes in the fields of political economy and development economics.Can conduct independent research and projects about various economic issues using knowledge of economics. Contributes to economics by introducing a new theoretical and methodogical innovation using knowledge about economics or another field of science.Searches the answer to an original research question using existing theories and methods. Gains ability to improve efficiency and to solve problems in work life using knowledge about economics. Learns and uses various software to use in economic analysis. Can follow international publications, gains ability to conduct research in English and publish in respected refereed journals as well as presenting them in academic meetings, without violating ethical rules.
The PhD Program in Economics focuses on training students to conduct independent research conforming with high international standards. The program builds from a core of economic theory, statistical methods, and applications in various fields. In addition to the mandatory courses on theory and research methods, students can take elective courses offered by the PhD Program in Economics, as well as those offered in other graduate programs.
Program Outcomes
Graduates of this program will be able to find careers at public institutions, private instiutions, and higher education instiutions.
This Program is at the top level of the National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education in Turkey. Hence, access to any upper level of study is not possible.
Letter Grade Equivalent Credit AA 4.00 BA 3.50 BB 3.00 CB 2.50 CC 2.00 FF 0.00 In order to be qualified as successful in a course in the post graduate program, the student should have scored atleast CC at the end of the semester. CC is a conditional pass grade at the end of the semester and these courses can be repeated during the education period in order to improve the GPA. A student who has a letter grade of FF for a course is considered to have failed.
